4/24/07 Update
First, I'd like to apologize for the lack of communication on my part. I have
been pretty
much out of touch for the last month as a result of the birth of my daughter.
Here is a quick update of where things stand as of today.
Membership
As of today, we have 37 paid members. I am getting some heat from TBF, as they
want
us to have a minimum of 50 members in order to be affiliated. They are
continuing to
work with me on this, but there is a lot of sponsorship related stuff tied to
this, so I'm
hoping we can reach this level soon.
June Qualifying Event
Currently, we have 15 paid entries for this tournament. So, it looks like the
odds of
making the 12 man team are pretty good for those anglers right now!!! Just a
reminder,
there is a May 15th deadline for entering this tournament and it will be
enforced. This is
so we can plan properly for the correct number of competitors. Due to the low
numbers
as of right now, I have not been able to negotiate any hotel deals or solidify a
location for
the pre-tournament meeting. But even if we only end up with 15 anglers, the
tournament
will go on and we will qualify a team to send to Sandusky. Entry forms and rules
are
available on the web site.
Youth Director
I am very pleased to announce that Jeff Nelson has stepped up and taken on the
role of
the Youth Director for the MFBA. Jeff is very passionate about youth programs
and I'm
confident he will do a great job. You can reach Jeff via e-mail at
youth@mnbass.org.
Junior State Championship
This years tournament is all set for June 14th on Lake Koronis. The
pre-tournament
meeting, take off and weigh in will all be at the regional park. Entry forms and
rules are
available on the web site. Currently we have 4 junior anglers already signed up,
as well
as a couple of boat captains. As was the case last year, were always looking for
volunteers to help with this event, so if you are willing and able to help in
anyway, please
contact Jeff Nelson at youth@mnbass.org.
TBF National Championship
The first ever TBF National Championship (TNC) was held last week on Lake Wylie
in
North Carolina. From the few people I've talked to, this was an unbelievable
event. For
more details, check out www.flwoutdoors.com
or www.bassfederation.com. This
event
is scheduled to be aired on FSN on Sunday, May 27th. I realize this is bass
opener
weekend in Minnesota, so I encourage you to record the show and watch it later.
I am
hoping to get one of the anglers that competed in the event to write up a brief
story about
the tournament and his experience for our web site.
That's about it for now. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, need
any
additional information or are interested in getting involved with the MFBA. As
with any
volunteer organization, it takes people to make things happen.
So spread the word and I hope to see a lot of you in June!
